Abstract
Partiendo de un análisis de los grabados de catafalcos, este artículo considerará el color negro como falta y como presencia. Se considerará la carga simbólica del color, también estudiando el aspecto material de cómo se hacían las tintas, colorantes, y pintura que se usaba para producirlo. En relación con su carga simbólica se reconocerá las resonancias morales, religiosas, y raciales que influyeron la recepción y percepción de este color. ¿Cómo se transmitía ideas de luz y sombra? y ¿cómo se influía en la interpretación de esas imágenes las ideas culturales de la época asociadas con ese color?
