Abstract
This study was undertaken by the Legal Services Research Centre at the request of the Legal Services Commission. Its purpose was to find out more about accused people’s choice of solicitor and their understanding of the criminal justice process. Almost 1,000 interviews were conducted, of which 212 took place in police stations and 767 took place in magistrates' courts.
