Abstract
In this chapter we discuss a range of historical and contemporary examples of radical educational practice. In doing so, we offer a theoretical account of what it is about such practices that makes them “radical”. We address the tensions involved in educational experiments that reflect radical social and political ideas, and explore the ways in which radical educators in different times and places have embodied and navigated some of these tensions.
