Abstract
Open Access (OA) to publications is a concept grounded in the values of the academy - collegiality, communication of new ideas, discourse, innovation. Dr Ayris will look at the state of UK policy on Open Access, using the Finch Report, the RCUK policy position and the current HEFCE consultation on REF 2020 as the baseline. The presentation will look at the OA infrastructure that UCL has put in place to meet these challenges and to support researchers. UCL's work is one of the leading examples of this sort of development anywhere in Europe. The paper will also analyse the benefits of university press activity and the challenges facing monograph publication, looking at the first fruits of the National Monograph Strategy, of whose Task Force Dr Ayris is a member.
