Abstract
This paper analyses the relationship between R&D and innovation in countries of Central and Eastern Europe. It points to a gap between local demand and supply for R&D and innovation as one of the key issues for long-term growth of the region. Analysis is based on innovation surveys, R&D, and patent and business survey data. Based on this analysis, the paper makes an assessment of the implications for future policies.
