Abstract

The housing crisis demands sustainable construction solutions to reduce homelessness while balancing key factors in the construction of low-income housing. This paper evaluates the sustainability of bahareque and reinforced concrete systems in this type of housing in Ecuador using a multi-criteria model. The analysis was conducted through the MIVES methodology, which integrates economic, environ- mental, and social dimensions, supported by a comprehensive literature review and expert consultations. Results indicate that the bahareque system achieved a sustainability index of 0.88, outperforming reinforced concrete, which scored 0.75, due to its superior performance across all criteria. This frame-work is adaptable to various contexts for assessing sustainability in housing projects.
