Abstract
This proposal introduces ELAmorph, a large-scale soft robotic installation performing as a human-responsive, shape-morphing panel. ELAmorph can transform from a flat vertical surface into flowing curves, reaching a tunnel-like form at its most deformed configuration. Developed as part of the ERS research agenda, the system is engineered to achieve these transformations with minimal material and actuation and is controlled by custom algorithms that enable both pre-defined choreographies and real-time responses to human movement. This shape-morphing structure is part of a broader vision where robotics move beyond their traditional role as tools to become a medium for creating new spatial and embodied experiences. In this vision, soft robotics become integral to human environments, forming adaptive and sustainable spaces that can not only transform in response to people but also adjust to environmental conditions. Such environments provide diverse spatial experiences while fostering emotional engagement and new forms of interaction, ultimately redefining the relationship between humans, machines, and the built world.
