Abstract

In this extended abstract, the results of four high-Froude number open-channel flows over a rough bed are presented, with the goal of quantifying the effect of a free surface (i.e., allowing the water surface to deform freely) on the friction factor of these flows. Therefore, four highly-resolved large-eddy simulations are performed, two with a rigid lid boundary condition at the water surface and two with the level set method, which allows water surface movement.
