Abstract
‘Building Bridges for Ukraine: Pathways to Sustainable Prosperity’ is a project by the UCL Institute for Global Prosperity (IGP) in collaboration with Fast Forward 2030. It aims to share innovative visions for rebuilding a Ukraine that is fit for the challenges of our planet’s future. Ukrainians are key in the design and delivery of reconstruction, but global partnerships can play a positive role in this massive challenge. But what should reconstruction efforts hope to achieve? Are there key elements that will be necessary for delivery? Which particular challenges will need to be addressed along the way? Alongside two roundtable discussions with a number of Ukrainian government delegates, thought leaders and small business innovators; a timely panel event at the London Design Biennale; and a feature at the 2025 Ukraine Recovery Conference, this White Paper invites leading thinkers and academics to envisage the major challenges facing us in the reconstruction of Ukraine. Aligning with the ten key themes for reconstruction, ranging from healthcare to housing, energy, transport and culture, we invite them to discuss how they believe innovative yet sustainable long-term solutions should be formulated, designed and delivered. These thought pieces are supplemented by a showcase of innovation in business thinking for future resilience, where a selection of mid-sized entrepreneurial firms are already leading the development of solutions for rebuilding a post-conflict Ukraine.
