Abstract

This study conducted in the state of Kerala, India, contributes to the literature that examines the impact of policing during COVID 19 on the personal and professional lives of women police officers. It focused on understanding the impact of work conditions, relationship with line managers, satisfaction with the organisation’s efforts to make work safe, organisational response to the pandemic, and caring and domestic responsibilities on stress levels of women officers. Findings indicated high levels of satisfaction with the organisation and relationship with line managers. Furthermore, although women officers experienced higher levels of general and work-related stress during the pandemic, these were not significantly related to their work conditions or organisational factors. Factors significantly associated with increased stress levels were increased childcare responsibilities and increased hours of work. Future research to understand the impact of organisational support, and explore coping mechanisms and resilience levels of women officers is indicated.
