Abstract
This study explores how to mitigate the effect of communication on the radar outputs for a radar-centric integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system. The ISAC platform takes the form of an index-modulated frequencymodulated continuous waveform (FMCW) radar. The effects caused by modulating bandwidth and centre frequency on Rangetime and Range-Doppler maps are clearly shown. Several techniques to mitigate different aspects of the effects are motivated and the results are presented. The techniques demonstrate that with increasing computational complexity radar returns can be obtained from the ISAC system of similar quality to the equivalent conventional FMCW. This study demonstrates that ISAC systems can perform communication while not significantly impacting the ability to perform their primary function of sensing.
