Abstract
This study focuses on the impact of visual factors on the soundscape evaluation of urban trunk roads. On-site audio-visual assessments were conducted in thirty pedestrian spaces in Tianjin, and a structural equation model (SEM) was constructed to analyse the relationships between visual factors and soundscape evaluation. The results indicated that traffic noise dominates, followed by human and other sounds, with relatively little natural sound. Rated pleasantness low (−0.79) and eventfulness high (0.71). Sound environment assessment scored low (2.99). Correlation analysis revealed that except for sky visibility and street transparency, all visual factors in this study were positively correlated with pleasantness and sound environment assessment. Only greenery diversity was negatively correlated with eventfulness. The results of the SEM indicated that natural landscape, spatial environment, and street interface positively impacted pleasantness, with the spatial environment having the greatest impact (0.217). The research results provide a scientific basis for improving urban audio-visual environment.
