Abstract

This study reports lighting conditions on five hospital wards at night and explores the effect on the people using those environments. Staff surveys and anecdotes revealed major visual issues in completing their day-to-day tasks, and patients also reported concerns. The lighting on the wards varied immensely and the ad hoc solutions revealed unique insights to inform future lighting design in hospitals.
