Abstract
This editorial considers the relationship between the social determinants of young people’s mental health and a systems perspective. It argues that efforts to improve young people’s mental health must address not only the macro-influences, but also the local manifestations of these. We argue that an approach that integrates systems thinking, evidence that is contextualised to local context and participatory design is required.
