Abstract
Once upon a time, there was a body called the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) which was a group of multidisciplinary healthcare professionals from around the UK who all worked together to facilitate research. Long, long ago the NCRI Ano-Rectal clinical studies group (CSG), supported by the NCRI Clinical and Translational Radiotherapy Research Working Group (CTRad), conceived an idea; to produce national anal intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) guidelines in the run up to the next big anal cancer trial. This is the story of how they were rolled out and the impact they have had on the management of anal cancer in the UK and beyond.
