Abstract
This chapter discusses religion and warfare in the Greek and Roman world. It looks in a first section at the relationship between mythology and war, focusing on myths, individual deities and their war-related functions. The second section is dedicated to the practicalities of religion and rituals before, during, and after wars. A third section is devoted to exploring the religion of the individual using the example of military leaders.
