Abstract
Fashion (1892-1901), by Júlia de Lopes Almeida (pseudonym Ecila Worms), is the third volume of the collection Women in the newspaper O Paiz , which contains the results of the research project “It is necessary to talk about the absent. Women chroniclers in the nineteenth-century press: Research in collections”, coordinated by Alexandro Paixão (Unicamp), Ana Cláudia Suriani da Silva (UCL) and Tania Regina de Luca (Unesp). The project had the financial support of Unicamp (BAS Grant), Unesp (PIBIC Grant) and University College London and is currently supported by the CNPq Universal Call for Proposals (18/2021) for a consolidated group.// The project aims to systematically locate the contributions of writers Maria Amália Vaz de Carvalho (1847-1921), Maria Benedita Câmara Bormann (pseudonym Délia, 1853-1895), Emília Moncorvo Bandeira de Melo (pseudonym Carmen Dolores, 1852–1910) and Júlia Lopes de Almeida (1862-1934) to the press in Rio de Janeiro during the Belle Époque . The research is based on the digital collection of periodicals available at the Hemeroteca Digital Brasileira, part of the National Library Foundation. The digital editions aim to reassess the female presence in the press at the end of the 19th century, in order to contribute to giving visibility and building new narratives about female voices, which are still largely silenced.// The third volume brings together 105 previously unpublished chronicles by Brazilian writer Júlia Lopes de Almeida, published in O Paiz between 1892 and 1901 under the title “A Moda”, which aimed to educate and guide readers on topics related to women’s appearance and education.
