Abstract

Dementia is caused by an acquired, sustained decline in brain function, leading to difficulty with everyday activities. With multiple aetiologies, clinical presentation varies, typically including problems with memory, cognition, and communication. Dementia research aims to identify risk factors, disease mechanisms and treatments. However, progress has been limited. Many cases remain undiagnosed, and there is currently no cure.
