Abstract
This article examines the modes of travel used by people with limited mobility. Mobility limitations may be temporary or permanent. The main categories of people with permanent limitations are those with disabilities and older people. These are the main focus of this article. Disabled and older people tend to make fewer trips than other people. In the United States and Britain, at least, they make most of their trips by car but are more likely to be car passengers than other people. Disabled people tend to use buses and taxis more but are less likely to travel by train than non-disabled people
