Abstract

The UK housing crisis is mostly attributed to the increased demand for housing supply and affordability. However, these circumstances present new challenges concerning effective master planning, the financing of homes, transportation, infrastructure, and other land uses. The research presented within this report explores a range of theoretical models and exemplars of sustainable communities that promote a good quality of life and economic growth, without jeopardising the stock of property equity which supports economic sustainability. The report concludes by listing 12 policy recommendations to ensure the creation of socially sustainable settlements through inclusive, collaborative, and transparent processes.
