Abstract

This article focuses on a short series of anatomical prints produced by Giulio Bonasone, a Bolognese engraver, during the second half of the sixteenth century, which deals with perceptions of the body and its representation in untraditional ways. In this article I will posit that these images, rather than propose an accurate representation of the human body which could be useful for medical students, respond to complex social and psychic implications that were (and still are) inextricably connected to the violent act of dissection.
