Title: Annotation in school English: a social semiotic historical account
Language: English
Additional information: This paper is of considerable significance in that it provides an answer to the question of how digital technology and social change impact on the practices of the classroom. Taking a multimodal analytical approach this paper takes the practice of “annotation”--a defining activity of the subject English in the UK seldom researched--and uses it as a device for uncovering aspects of changes in the subject English. It draws on data from three previous research projects on school English to explore annotation in the classroom. The paper was reviewed by the editor of REE and double-blind peer review. C.
