Abstract
In this chapter I focus on three issues that are relevant and of concern to researchers in embarking on mixed methods research. First, I focus on personal issues drawing upon my own research biography and consider the factors that may influence engagement in mixed method research. Second, I consider professional issues: the opportunities and risks for researchers in engaging in mixed method research strategies. Third, I consider some project issues: what mixing methods means in practice in carrying out a research project. It is necessary before doing so to say something about the definition of the term and how I use it in this chapter.
