Abstract

This volume contains reports by Adolfo Rossi which were first published in episodes in the Italian press in 1901. Rossi's reports, which are edited and published together for the first here and which examine the case of the notorious 'brigand' Giuseppe Musolino, offer a precious insight into the early history of the Calabrian mafia, or 'ndrangheta. They are the result of Rossi's journey to Calabria from Northern Italy, and of extensive investigations and interviews that he carried out while there. The Prefazione and Postfazione give an account of the Musolino case, the state of the Calabrian mafia at the end of the nineteenth century, based on archival resources, and the career and journalistic ethos of Adolfo Rossi.
