Abstract

This introduction outlines the wider context in which this edited collection has been written, before summarising the content of the book. The authors describe the political battles over the concept of sex and attempt to erase this concept in language, law and data collection and the way this has played out in public institutions and political life. We also describe the chilling climate which has affected discussions of these issues in academia and society as a whole.
