Abstract

The fourth “Experimental Architecture Biennial” was formally launched in mid-June under the Digital Tactics banner. It will feature an exhibition presenting fifteen creatives from across the world. It will include representatives from the top Los Angeles-based SCI-Arc school; the Neri Oxman studio at the MIT Media Lab in Cambridge, Massachusetts; the Dutch UNStudio; the British-based Zaha Hadid Architects; the Vienna-based Moh architects; architects and teachers from the University of Innsbruck; and architects and teachers from the Bartlett School of Architecture in London. Numerous creatives will be present at the launch, as well as at an international experimental architecture symposium held the following day in the Kotěra Lecture Hall at the Faculty of Architecture, Czech Technical University in Prague (CUT), held under the auspices of Belgian-born British architect Gilles Retsin. Entrance to the conference is free of charge for students this year. Over the subsequent three days, a workshop will take place headed by Bartlett School architecture expert Manuel Jimenez Garcia, and Starsk Lara (IAAC Barcelona). The Experimental Architecture Biennial in Prague is an international platform for showcasing current trends and architectural design tactics, emerging in response to the new philosophies and technologies of a changing world. The event seeks to generate interest in architectural thinking that transcends narrow local assessment criteria. This fourth Biennial, entitled Digital Tactics, centres on a world of architecture and design in which the initial wave of enthusiasm for digital technology has been replaced by a sense that such tools are routine and unconscious parts of our day-to-day lives.
