Abstract
It is generally accepted that residents of deprived areas suffer more from road traffic accidents. In the Neighbourhood Road Safety Initiative (NRSI) project at UCL, we have been investigating the relationship between road traffic casualties in some deprived areas (mostly located in the north-west and north-east of England) and various socio-economic indicators such as Index of Multiple Deprivation and ethnicity. The talk essentially presents the progress in the project achieved in the last year. In particular, the talk will show the work done on evaluating the uncertainties in STATS19 data and thematic mapping showing the strong relationship between various casualty types and socio-economic indicators.
