Abstract
The Street Mobility toolkit provides a set of tools that can be used by practitioners, local communities, and others, to assess and value the costs of the 'barrier effect' of roads. This document describes how to use two pre-existing tools: street audits and space syntax. Street audits assess the quality of the pedestrian environment and help identifying barriers to walking caused by physical elements of the road, or by lack of provision for pedestrians. Space syntax is a set of research methods used to represent and quantify the patterns of open space inside buildings and in street systems and to investigate the relationship between design and social function.
