Abstract
RESUMEN: Este artículo se propone explorar el concepto de multilingüismo, consta-tar cuáles son las estrategias cinematográficas que se usan para reflejarlo en la pelícu-la original, revelar su valor diegético con respecto a la caracterización de los perso-najes y a la historia que se narra, e ilustrar algunas de las técnicas traductoras que se activan a la hora de enfrentarse con este fenómeno lingüístico. Con el fin de teorizar sobre esta problemática y concretizar ciertos comportamientos traductológicos, se ha elegido la obra Vicky Cristina Barcelona , dirigida por Woody Allen en 2008, como objeto de estudio que permita dar cuenta de algunas de las estrategias utilizadas por los traductores cuando trabajan con producciones audiovisuales marcadas por el conflicto que supone la presencia de lenguas adicionales. ABSTRACT: This paper sets out to explore the concept of multilingualism by looking into the various strategies used by film directors to embed it into their creative works and by uncovering the diegetic value that the use of several languages can have in the characterisation of the actors as well as in the plot of the film. It then proceeds to illustrate some of the techniques generally implemented by translators when negotiating its transfer into other languages and cultures. The film Vicky Cristina Barcelona , directed by Woody Allen in 2008, has been chosen as the main case study since it affords a fruitful discussion on the theoretical implications raised by multilingual productions and allows for the mapping out of some recurrent behaviour on the part of the translator.
