Abstract
El Argar culture is usually presented as a state in which a few communities exerted social, economic and political control over large territories. Recent research has recognised this model as problematic highlighting discrepancies between the archaeological evidence and this ‘classic’ view of the Argaric territory. This article explores the territorial organization of El Argar through palaeo-demographic studies and catchment area analyses and suggests a new way of understanding settlement patterns, territorial organization and political structure in the Iberian southeast during the Bronze Age. A fragmented landscape emerges, with small territories linked in a fluid and flexible manner
