Abstract
This chapter looks at some dominant trends in contemporary philosophy of education through the lens of anarchist theory. I argue for a more critical role for philosophy of education and defend the need for a kind of "philosophical imagination" in addressing issues to do with the relationship between education and the state, the role of education in social and political change, and the idea of utopianism.
