Abstract

'All the fantasies of the people!' is a performance exploring and experimenting with Myth-Science as formal process for making art and critical reflections. Myth Science - a termed coined by Sun Ra - was explored in the performance as a slowing down and speeding up of myths and experiences chosen by the eight participants in the performance. In this, the performance presented a contemporary carnival and drew upon Ifa rituals. The phrase, 'all the fantasies of the people' is taken from Maya Deren's film, 'The Divine Horsemen' and a description of Haitian Carnival when when all the fears, hatred and disdain and all that is scared is paraded. The Performance consists of a projection of eight avatars and diagrams, live music and reading/chanting of text concerning all the fantasies of the people. The last performance of 'All the fantasies of the people!' was at Wysing Arts Centre for Spac-Time: Convention T. Previously the performance had been presented at Grand Union Gallery Birmingham for Magic Eye Music Festival, 20 July 2013; IMT Gallery London 27 July 2013 and Stephen Lawrence Gallery Greenwhich, 7 April 2013.
