Abstract

James Wilsdon gave this introductory talk at the Metascience 2025 conference on 30 June 2025, and then introduced and chaired the opening session with contributions from Lord Patrick Vallance (UK Minister for Science, Research and Innovation); Magdalena Skipper (Editor-in-Chief of Nature); Sir Peter Gluckman (President, International Science Council); Dr Takahiro Ueyama (Special Adviser to the Cabinet Office, Government of Japan); and Kelvin Mubiana Katukula of Namibia's National Commission on Research, Science and Technology.
