Abstract

Young people, researchers, and artists often work together in mental health research, but the language they use can carry different meanings for different groups. These differences can sometimes create confusion, exclusion, or disengagement. As part of Project CREATE’s first work stream, focused on exploring key mental health and research-related vocabularies used by researchers and young people, this resource has been developed to: • Recognise that key terms may hold specific meanings for individuals, and that these meanings are not always shared across groups. • Highlight the importance of sensitivity and awareness when differences in understanding arise. • Encourage the use of vocabularies that are meaningful and inclusive, supporting effective and collaborative work with young people. This resource is designed to help researchers and youth participation groups build more inclusive, accessible, and collaborative research practices.
