Abstract
In this chapter we provide a conceptualization of English as an International Language (EIL) and literature pedagogy in terms of the knowledge, the attitudes and the skills that teachers promote. We examine changes in the English we teach, changes in attitudes to English, and changes in our pedagogy. We focus on issues of text choice and the literature that is being taught; the attitudes learners develop towards the diversity of literary texts encountered; and the specific skills that are developed. We provide examples from different curricula and coursebooks and discuss the rise of creative writing in language classrooms.
