Abstract
Optic neuritis (ON) is a pivotal clinical manifestation in multiple sclerosis (MS) and other demyelinating diseases, including neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein-associated disease (MOGAD). This talk provides a comprehensive approach to the diagnosis and classification of ON, emphasising its role as a diagnostic and phenotypic marker in these conditions. With a focus on recent advancements, we will explore the integration of para-clincal tests into diagnostic algorithms, highlighting their utility in distinguishing optic neuritis in MS from other conditions. Emerging evidence demonstrating disease-specific patterns of optic nerve damage, recovery, and their prognostic implications for visual and neurological outcomes will be discussed. To enhance learning, illustrative and practical case presentations will be used to demonstrate diagnostic approaches and management challenges in real-world scenarios. Attendees will gain actionable insights into the role of ON in modern neuro-ophthalmic practice, equipping them with the tools to improve diagnostic accuracy and optimise patient care.
