Abstract
The past decade has seen a resurgent interest in the historic graffiti scattered across the walls of England’s medieval parish churches, and has led to the formation of vibrant county-based survey projects in Cheshire, Devon, Hampshire, Kent, Norfolk, Suffolk, and elsewhere (Champion 2015; McInnes 2019, 216). While an attempt to launch a Worcestershire Historic Graffiti Project in 2016 proved unsuccessful, individual graffiti surveys have nonetheless taken place at medieval churches across the county, and have produced important new results at sites in the Severn Valley and the Vale of Evesham (Hoggard 2022; Perkins 2022; Andrews 2023; V. Fletcher pers. comm.). This article seeks to contribute to the recording effort by presenting some examples of historic graffiti and associated anthropogenic marks observed by the author at All Saints’ church, Spetchley, in April 2023.
