Abstract

The 2020s is a decade when the Internet of Things (IoT) is reaching critical mass in how it is applied in the fabric of the world’s cities. What happens at the ‘edge’ of networks will become central to how cities after Covid-19 look to safeguard citizens, manage human interaction, shift to hybrid services and experiences, utilise space in workplaces and CBDs, and make urgent cost savings. IoT will be enlisted as both a management tool and an innovation driver in cities’ quest to recover jobs and productivity, accelerate with net zero transitions, reduce disparities in services and public health, and keep digital infrastructures cybersecure.
