Abstract
Meeting the UK’s commitment to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero by 2050 will require emissions from all buildings to be all but eliminated. Decarbonising energy use in non- domestic buildings is one of the most complex challenges facing the UK. Until now, the complexity and diversity of the non-domestic stock has limited attempts to develop comprehensive and detailed datasets to inform policy decisions. The Non-Domestic Building Stock project (NDBS) brings together existing and new data to develop a comprehensive and uniquely structured database in which every non-domestic building is represented in detail: its energy use and energy efficiency, its geometry and materials and the activities of the occupants.
