Abstract
It is a common feature of the 21st century workplace to be multicultural. This has however posed challenges to the industry of professional communication education since educators need to incorporate different cultural practices and profiles in their teaching and testing materials. In this talk we will reflect on the practical challenges of professional communication education for multicultural workplaces and envisage what AI has to offer in this place. The talk comprises two parts. In the first part, Dr Dai reflects on his on-the-ground experience teaching and assessing professional communication skills for health students in a Medicine Faculty. In the second part, Dr Suzuki and Dr Chen elaborates the possibilities, affordances and caveats in using AI to develop teaching and testing materials for professional communication education. The talk concludes with directions for future research and practice in this emerging area.
