Abstract
Presents a candidate-based approach to party evolution, inspired by evolutionary theories. / Draws on a new database of 200,000 electoral candidates from over 60 elections in Central and Eastern Europe. / Develops new measures of candidate change, party fission and fusion, programmatic change, and party leader change.
