Abstract
The reigns and persons of Sigismund III, Władysław IV and John Casimir played a not insignificant role in the politics of history pursued by King Stanisław August Poniatowski (1764-1795) via various written, spoken and visual media. Even before his election Poniatowski was fascinated by Władysław IV, whom he contrasted favourably with Sigismund III and distinguished along with a few other Polish kings in his early architectural initiatives. Various heroes from the so-called Vasa period appeared in the fullest expression of the king’s politics of history, the Knights’ Hall at the Royal Castle. In 1791-1792 Stanisław August devoted more attention to a valiant, tragic prophet and monarch: John Casimir.
