Abstract
Main stress in English falls on the rightmost element. As the following question-answer pairs illustrate, an utterance with neutral stress is ambiguous with respect to its focus interpretation (Chomksy 1971). In particular, neutral, rightmost stress allows for DPIO, VP- and IP-focus.
