Abstract

The World Bank has undertaken to design a sustainable, conflict-sensitive and participative regional development framework for Northern Nigeria. As part of this initiative, ICF International has been commissioned to research and compile a Strategic Overview of Northern Nigeria. This incorporates:  Profiling the region’s current characteristics;  Analysis of the development deficiencies of the region, current infrastructure access and constraints, potential for cross-border linkages, trade and cooperation;  An Economic Potential Index for each State;  A SWOT Analysis for development opportunities at state level. This Regional Profile forms the first volume of the Strategic Overview. It assembles and synthesises existing primary and secondary information and data on Northern Nigeria to present a current situation analysis.
