Abstract

A83586C isolated from the culture filtrates of Streptomyces Karnatakensis is a member of the Azinothricin family of cyclodepsipeptide antibiotics. Its potent antibiotic activity in vitro against a wide range of Gram-positive bacteria and ability to retard the growth of a CCRF-CEM human T-cell leukaemia line has made it an important target for total synthesis. The synthesis of an advanced intermediate whose structure incorporates carbons 31 to 47 of the A83586C skeleton is discussed in this thesis.
