Abstract

Coastal dynamics can be investigated through the approach of shoreline change analysis, whereby shifts in the position of the shoreline are monitored over different time frames. The workflow and procedures involved in shoreline change analysis have evolved over recent decades, and the approach is now carried out at multiple temporal and spatial scales. In this chapter, we review the development of the concept and tools associated with shoreline change analysis, and present a case example that demonstrates the application of the approach and insights that can be obtained.
