Abstract

Based on the review of the theories of creative city and international trade competitiveness index, we construct a Shanghai Creative City indicator system. The system contains 4 major categories and 34 indicators. Comparing Shanghai, New York, Paris, Tokyo and London, we analyse urban space, creative class and the ecology for creativity. We identified gaps between creative consumption and production, between creative policy and creative practice. The study recommends the policy for bridging the gap and offers solutions.
