Abstract

This paper presents a protocol model in support of seamless mobility for next generation IP wireless access networks. Beyond traditional IP mobility practices, the proposed protocol encompasses a novel approach for seamless handoff through proactive relocation of the IP roaming context state. The latter establishes a generic substrate for proactive state relocation of different context classes enabling a mobile node (MN) to be seamlessly IP reachable. The proposed model identifies a tentative mobility matrix (TMM), representing a consistent mapping between a mobility neighbourhood vector (MNV), surrounding the current point of attachment of an MN, and the correct underlying routing neighbourhood vector (RNV), over arbitrary routing topologies.
