Abstract
Deindustrialisation in the Lorraine region is primarily understood as a problem of territory: from policy makers trying to reignite the region’s dynamism through reconversions, to the use of images of derelict factories as signifiers of the social problems arising from the disappearance of activity and jobs. However, there are also authors committed to offer critical and creative views on deindustrialised Lorraine. Among them, François Bon, Gilles Ortlieb and Denis Robert offer psychogeographies of Lorraine that challenge the dominant narratives of deindustrialisation. This article analyses the different modes of psychogeography that can be found in these authors’ works (the investigation, melancholy, the aesthetics of ruins and the reverie) and proposes to retrace how Lorraine is reinvented in the process.
