Abstract

Children start learning biology long before they encounter formal educators, the requirements of the curriculum and the knowledge assessed on for school tests. The biology of the area where they live form most first experiences of the biology. The child is part of this biological world and various depictions of it are in many of the early years pictorial fiction books read to them and which they choose to look at themselves.
